For speciation to occur, some kind of isolation must occur. The most common form of isolation is gametic or sexual isolation, in which populations are isolated from one another by the inability to successfully mate. Therefore, changes in sex chromosomes can easily bring about isolation, while changes in other chromosomes rarely result in isolation.
